I feel our education system is failing our kids, and that is why I support “big change” ideas to fix our schools rather than many of the small less impactful ideas being pushed in our legislature. I believe in transforming our school system into something that competes internationally rather than becoming more and more dependent on standardize testing.

To do this we must acknowledge that every civilized country besides us has kids in school mostly year around and all day. By third grade our kids are behind on teaching hours almost an entire year compared to Asians and Europeans. Longer days and years would match parents work schedules and enable more diverse learning options like electives and honors classes and reduce latchkey related crime and development issues. Also, our class sizes are out of control. I support a constitutional amendment to limit class size. Lastly it’s time we also leverage technology and distance learning to bring in the 21st century into the classroom.
